As a licensed esthetician, I have many years of experience working in the esthetic industry. I want to help advise you with your beauty choices moving forward and give you as much knowledge as possible. Now that I have given you some basic information about injectables like Botox and dermal fillers, I want to give you recommendations on what to ask your doctor before you undergo an anti-aging treatment or facelift.
Here’s what you need to know for your injectable appointment.
Make an appointment with a doctor you trust. Do some research and see if they are well trusted. You don’t want anyone who may not know what they are doing to administer you treatments.
Communicate with your provider. Talk to them and explain clearly what you want to achieve. You also should be completely honest with them. Let them know past medical histories such as allergies or medical conditions.
Some other important questions to ask includes:
- If they are a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Also, ask them how long they have been doing these procedures to ensure that they are skilled in this field.
- Ask them what they would recommend if you wanted a natural arch and lift for your brow. They should be able to explain to you how those muscles work and how to achieve your goal.
- If they are using real Botox or Fillers. They should draw up the injectables right in front of you.
Start slowly. Don’t start with two syringes, request to start off with one. See how you like the results and move forward from there. Many doctors make their money from how many units they sell and will try to get you to ask for more, regardless of what your face treatment actually needs.
Technique is just as important as the amount. I believe that less is more when it comes to fillers, but the doctor conducting your procedure needs to understand the facial muscles to give you the best results.
Tip: To avoid duck lips: Injectables need to be applied inside the lips to make them fuller, not bigger.
